Seven years ago, Mariana received a desperate call from a small town nearly 250 km from Timișoara. A violent man, in a jealous rage, had taken a baby girl—just a few months old—and thrown her out of a window. By God’s mercy, the child landed in a bush and survived. In that town, people knew the man for his violence, but no one dared intervene.
Mariana did.
At great personal risk, she traveled to the village, found the terrified young mother and her baby girl, and brought them safely to our center in Timișoara. The young mother had grown up in Romania’s orphanages and carried the scars of abandonment and abuse. She had been beaten repeatedly by her partner, yet felt powerless to leave.
At the Village of Hope, both mother and child finally received care. The baby girl was given proper food, medical attention, and nurturing. The mother was placed in a social reintegration program and helped to find a job. For a short time, things seemed to stabilize.
But soon the young woman revealed she was pregnant again—this time by her abuser. The situation became heartbreaking. She struggled with psychological problems, neglected her children, and refused the help offered by our staff. Eventually, she abandoned both children at the center.
For more than two years, our Village of Hope team became both mother and father to those little ones. Finally, after tireless searching, Mariana found a foster family willing to care for them. That family soon fell so deeply in love with the children that they adopted them permanently. Today, those siblings are thriving in a safe, loving home—because someone stepped in when no one else would.
