In the heart of Romania’s rural landscapes, the story of the C family unfolds—a story that embodies both the hardships and the resilience found within the small village.
They are a family of four, with two young sons, F, aged 8, and *D, aged 7. For over a year now, The Village of Hope Romania has been helping this family, who face unimaginable challenges on a daily basis.
The 8 year old’s life began with a battle, born prematurely and experiencing critical moments without oxygen due to his umbilical cord being wrapped around his neck. This led to a diagnosis of Hydrocephalus—a condition where fluid accumulates in the brain, causing severe damage.
He lives with the realities of this condition every day, struggling to communicate and walk. Despite these hurdles, the moments when he responds to our team’s visits are deeply moving. This was especially evident when our team recently delivered Easter gifts to the family, a simple pleasure that brought a spark of happiness to his eyes.
The 7 year old and his mother bear the brunt of F’s care, a task that is both physically and emotionally overwhelming. The severity of F’s condition means that his mother can’t work outside the home, placing the financial burden for the family on the father. Unfortunately, the income from his construction job isn’t enough to meet the family’s needs.
This is where the role of The Village of Hope Romania becomes crucial. We aim to be the bridge for at-risk families like the C family, who are caught in the grip of poverty and hardship due to circumstances beyond their control. Our mission extends beyond occasional visits; it’s about creating a sustainable support system that enables families to improve their living conditions significantly and have hope for the future.
It’s stories like these that drive us to expand our reach and grow our funding to ensure that no family has to face such harsh realities alone.
As I shared with you in my last letter, the decision to move to a new facility in Timisoara has allowed us to reach even more children and families. We currently serve 220 children in poor, rural areas of Romania providing them with care packages filled with food, clothing, hygiene items, medical supplies, and school supplies – and that number increases every month.
